PHzMonitor History

Sensor Models History

  • Model #1 was totally experimental, undocumented, and recycled. It had separate 5Vdc and AC power supplies.
  • Model #2 was the first public model. It was presented as an entry in the October 2007 MicroChip/Circuit Cellar 16bit embbeded systems contest.
  • Model #3 was mostly experimenting with various OpAmps and related circuitry.
  • Model #4 experimented with using a 5Vdc switcher instead of the linear regulator. This worked and had some advantage with regards to heat. However the circuit complexity increased and the signal quality was not improved.
  • Model #5 used either the switcher supply or the linear regulator for 5Vdc. Model 5 was deployed to production to 5 locations and 2 independent people who later updated to Model 8C.
  • Model #6 experimented with voltage references
  • Model #7 experimented with Allegro Relay drivers
  • Model #8C is the current production version combining the features developed in Models #6 and #7.
  • Model #9 is the current work in progress and is targeted for release by October 2009. It was originally intended to be Ethernet attached. However, due to limitations in the dsPIC30F3012 micro controller, the Ehternet feature for the Model #9 was cancelled.

Current Work In Progress is the PHzMonitor Model 9

  • Full 12MHz resolution (not prescaled) used for frequency measurement
  • Dual Channel Frequency Measurement with Zero Crossing Measurement
  • Model 9A - External EEPROM Option

Current Production Model is the PHzMonitor Model 8

  • Model 8A - External EEPROM Option
  • Model 8B - Allegro Relay Driver
  • Model 8C - No External EEPROM or Relay Driver. Added PWM Signal Output on PIN 10

Model 5, 2008

  • First Production Model PHzMonitor Home Page
  • Mostly refinements and software improvements over the original model
